Dancing With The Stars

Dancing with the Stars: Results, Week 10

The encore performance is Shawn Johnson’s Argentine Tango. This was so awesome last night. It usually seems like the encores are not as good as the actual performance, and this one just doesn’t seem as crisp.Still really good though. It’s so far off what we’ve seen from Shawn before that it’s really exciting to watch.Good job, Shawn!
Filler time!Former champions Drew Lachey, Helio Castroneves, and Brooke Burke weigh in on the final four.As nice as it is to see these guys again, this is a pretty standard results-show piece where everybody says positive things about everybody.I think it would be awesome if one of them just totally smack-talked one of the final four.I need a dance floor rivalry!
Commercials. You know what the best way is to get me to see your Night at the Museum sequel?Put Amy Adams in it.Well played, Hollywood.Well played.
OK, time for the next step in the Pro Dancing competition, and I am horrified that Afton DelGrosso has been eliminated.I thought she had this one.Instead, Mayo will be dancing with Kym Johnson and Fake Anna will dance with Maksim.I feel like dancing with a star would be a better final round, rather than dancing with a pro.The former is more representative of what they’ll be doing on the show. But you know who they didn’t ask?Me!
First up, Mayo and Kym dance the Tango. It’s quite lovely, but it’s really hard to write about a professional pair. They do a great job and don’t make mistakes. What can I say about that? The judges love it, but Carrie Ann wants to see more of his personality. That’s a very Carrie Ann thing to say.
Fake Anna and Maks dance the Quickstep.Again, what am I going to say?Though on this show, the Quickstep tends to be a dance that’s used to cover up weaknesses – it tends to show up in the early rounds, and more often than not it’s pretty awkward. So to see one that’s all nice and crisp is pretty great.Tom says Maks hasn’t had more fun since “he went to the hall of mirrors”.Hee.Once again, the judges love it.
Tom mentions that the couple with the lowest judge’s scores have only been eliminated on four occasions.Huh.Way to wreck the curve, Wozniak!
Apparently we as a nation chose this next dance, which is a Quickstep to “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing”.I have chosen no such thing, I assure you.The dancers are Mark Ballas, Derek Hough, Julianne, and… Lacey? Is this like when you nominate that kid nobody likes for Homecoming Court as a joke?I mean, so I’ve heard. It’s not like that ever happened to me or anything.(Don’t look at me!I’m hideous!)Also, America loves the Houghs!I bet we could get a vote to rename any state in the Union “Houghtown”.
Forty-three minutes into the results show, we still have no results.Instead, it’s another round of the Pro competition.Mayo and Kym dance a Cha-Cha to “Shake Your Groove Thing”.The judges are less wowed this time.Carrie Ann once again wants more of his personality, Len didn’t like it as much as the Tango, and Bruno thinks they should have done a proper Cha-Cha.That is not a criticism often leveled by Bruno.
Finally, Fake Anna and Maks perform a Samba.I’ve mentioned it before, but I can’t really get a handle on what constitutes a Samba, so I’m never sure what I’m supposed to be seeing. But this is really fun and looks great. If Fake Anna could maybe change her name before next season, she and I might get along fine.Len offers to show his “bum in the supermarket” if Fake Anna’s not the winner. The other judges are similarly rhapsodic, though without the promise of public nudity.
Time for some results! That’s what we’re here for, after all.Gilles and Cheryl are the first couple to move on to the Finals.Yay!Next are Shawn and Mark.Yay again! You know, I find myself kind of liking Ty, but he’s not in the same league.I think it would be really cool to have three people who all actually have a legitimate shot at winning in the Finals.
It’s down to Melissa and Ty.And after some praise from the judges, Ty is eliminated. This doesn’t come as any kind of surprise, but he really turned out to be quite likeable.I would never have voted for him, but he seems like a good guy and he really made a lot of progress from his weird, awkward start.
Honestly, this is probably the most suspenseful in years. All three of them have a real shot, and I believe they’ve all been at the top at one time or another.I’m guardedly going with Gilles for the win, but that could all change.
See you next week for a sure-to-be exciting finale!
