Chris Jericho – There is nothing I like better than reading bios of professional wrestlers on wikipedia. In Chris’ case, I learned that he once ran Goldberg over with a limousine, and that at one point his in-ring persona was inspired by Javier Bardem’s performance in No Country for Old Men. He seems to be fairly clean-cut as wrestlers go, with his only legal trouble stemming from an incident where a fan claimed that he punched her, but video evidence didn’t support her story. Last year, he hosted the terrible game show Downfall, a show that we were mildly obsessed with around here. As host, he was likeable, though his sense of humor and ability to read questions left a lot to be desired. Still, he had good presence and didn’t get mad when one contestant thought he was Kurt Angle. I think he could really be good here – while wrestling may not be “real”, there’s a definite athleticism required. And the coordination involved in triple powerbombing a dude without crippling him is definitely the sort of skill that could translate to the dance floor. Plus, the DWTS costumes really aren’t any more ridiculous that what he’s used to wearing in the ring. If he leaves his wrestling persona behind and connects with viewers, I think he could go far. He’s partnered with Cheryl Burke, who is unquestionably awesome. She’s at her best with somebody who can commit to her training regimen, which means she does some of her best work with athletes. It looks like a good year for Cheryl! (EJ)
Even though I didn’t know half the celebs for Season 12 of DWTS, I’ve been pleasantly surprised (so far) by this cast. This could, actually, be a fun season. (Hallelujah!) No faves at this point. I’m keeping an open mind and looking forward to seeing what each couple brings to the floor on March 21.
I’m kind of disappointed there’s no ringer! You knew Nicole Scherzinger, Brandy, Evan Lysacek, Melissa Rycroft, etc would be awesome. But nobody here is giving me “I’M AN AMAZING DANCER” vibes.
