The Macy’s Stars of Dance routine will be a redux of several iconic movie dance routines. We start with an Astaire-alike tapping to “Puttin on the Ritz”, followed by Saturday Night Fever‘s “You Should be Dancin” with multiple Travoltas. A perfect re-do of the original Austin Powers opening number is up next, and the guy playing Mike Meyers is kick ass.
And then:
“You want fame. Well, fame costs. And right here is where you start paying; in sweat.” I can’t even tell you how obsessed I was with this TV show when I was 10. All that’s missing here is Irene Cara. They’re using the more recent version of the Fame theme from the newer (inferior) movie, which bums me out a bit. A whole gaggle of dancers strut around the ballroom, and I kind of wish they were dancing on top of a car. Also, I miss Leroy. RIP, Gene Anthony Ray.
