Breakout Kings doesn’t just coast on its concept and the winning cast – both episodes I watched had surprising plot twists that kept it from being just another show where good (and sort of good) guys chase bad guys. The pilot has them chasing a brutal and clever escapee who plants all sorts of false leads, including faking a bloody message from one of his victims. You have to admit, that’s pretty hardcore. Episode Three sees the team going after a pedophile, only things aren’t as cut-and-dried as they seem. Both episodes are really well-plotted, and the surprises manage to be actually surprising and completely logical.
