There’s also the ongoing tension in the fact that we’re dealing with a bunch of criminals who get to leave jail and go outside. Even though they’ve got that sweet minimum security transfer, that’s not enough. Some members of the team, particularly Shea, seem to be plotting their exit strategy. It always hangs out there – there’s very little stopping these guys from stealing a car and making a run for it. They haven’t spelled out everything right off the bat, and there’s quite a lot for us to discover about who these people are and what they’re capable of.
Network TV hasn’t had much in the way of crime drama for quite a while now – mostly procedural franchises. I’m glad to see cable is picking up the slack here. I really like A&E’s Breakout Kings. Some of my favorite character actors, clever writing, and a setup that’s full of potential – it’s good stuff. And in case you need some extra incentive, it’s been announced that Robert Knepper will reprise his Prison Break role for an episode. That’s right, T-Bag is returning to TV. There’s nothing about that that isn’t awesome.
