The stern of the Black Rock did indicate a home port of Portsmouth, which is also where Desmond’s favorite author, Charles Dickens, was born. But now that we know it hit the Island in 1867, quite a while after that journal was recovered. And we’ve known for a while that the Black Rock was a slave ship, and so the auctioneer’s “trading mission” doesn’t quite fit. Basically, it’s never a good idea to trust a Hanso.
