LOST: Pre-Game for “The Package”

By the way, spunkybuddy Larry and I hashed out a lot of this Black Rock speculation earlier on. I’ve sort of lost track of who came up with what at this point, so feel free to attribute it to our hive mind.

The Hansos were up to something this whole time. The Black Rock spent a good 22 years on the sea, and once that journal was recovered, this ship was assumed lost by anybody who might have been interested. I have to think ol’ Magnus strategically misplaced that journal for just that purpose. I suspect that Richard and his holdmates (which, it turns out, is not a word) were going to be put to work on a very specific task for Magnus – they weren’t going to go to the New World, and they weren’t going to be sold. Most likely, this task involved large quantities of dynamite. I tend to think it was something involving mining or some kind of excavation. Whatever it was, it was almost definitely illegal. And now that I think about it, leaving that journal to be found in 1852 was kind of the 19th century version of Widmore building a fake flight 815 and dropping it in the ocean. I’m kind of pleased with that, since it’s another example of the way events on the Island repeat themselves with slight variations.
