Jacob’s Ladder: I think this came up some years back, but my sister brought it up again, and it’s more apropos with each season. “Jacob” is, of course, a biblical name. (One of surprisingly few on the series – of the major characters there’s really only Jacob, John, Ben, Michael, Aaron, and Daniel, and among the minor characters, there’s Naomi and Matthew. I might be forgetting one or two, but for a series with as many biblical allusions as Lost, that’s not many.) The Jacob in the Bible had many children, deceived his father, and wrestled with an angel. So, you know, he certainly doesn’t represent the opposite of the major themes of Lost.
