LOST Pre-Game: “The Substitute”

Infection: OK, I’ve been thinking about this all week. Lennon and Dogen say that Sayid was “claimed”, though they admit it’s not an exact translation. That sounds like an active choice by a sentient force to me. You can’t be passively claimed. However, the Others have a tendency to personify things. We’ve heard for years about how the Island wants this, or the Island rejects that. It might not really be the way that they describe it at all. Maybe that since this is Jacob’s temple, the healing pool usually saves people. As the balance of power on the Island tips to Silas, it corrupts them. Their description of the process just leans toward the anthropomorphic.
