LOST Revisited: 6-4 “The Substitute” (Feb 17)

All right, strap yourself in because we are not screwing around anymore. Look-a-Locke leads Sawyer to a cliff and tells him that they’re going down. Sure enough, there’s a ladder. This is such a well-staged scene, because it really seems like the Lockelganger is trying to kill Sawyer. First, he switches to another ladder. That’s always a bad sign. Sawyer’s ladder pulls loose, and it really looks like that was the plan all along, but Look-a-Locke grabs him and pulls him to safety. They enter a little alcove, where there’s a balanced scale with a white rock and a black rock. The Lockelganger tosses the white rock into the ocean and calls it “a private joke”. He’s just getting smug about his victory over Jacob now. He then leads Sawyer down a cavern and when they reach the end, he tells Sawyer “That’s why you’re here.” The wall is covered with names, most of which have been scratched out. You guys, we are looking at Jacob’s list! And do you know how they got there? Jacob’s ladder! That is awesome! (My sister totally called that we’d be getting a reference to Jacob’s ladder weeks ago.)
