LOST Revisited: 6-4 “The Substitute” (Feb 17)
On the Island, we get a Monster’s-Eye-View of things. I assume the camerawork here is an homage to Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead movies. (An unseen force chases Bruce Campbell through the woods, and we see it travel through its own eyes, and it’s a very similar effect. First, it travels to New Otherton, and stops outside Sawyer’s house. We see Smokey’s reflection in the window. The reflection makes it look like white smoke, but I’m going to assume that’s just lighting. Because otherwise, it’s all gone crazy on us. But then, it backtracks and flashes back to the jungle. Did Smokey travel that fast, or was the flash meant to indicate that he’s in two places at once? Whatever the case, it turns back into the Lockelganger and releases Richard “Batmanuel” Alpert from a trap.
