LOST Revisited: Pre-Game for “Recon”

Interestingly, we have instances of Jacob knowing the future and instances where he’s been surprised. Presumably, he’s the one who ultimately wanted the landing strip on the smaller Island, which would certainly point to him knowing that Flight 316 was going to need it. And yet Miles said that, in his last moments of life, Jacob hoped that he was wrong about Benry. That seems like a guy who can be surprised. Maybe that’s how those loopholes work.
