LOST Revisited: Pre-Game for “Recon”

So is it supposed to be a clue? Is Timeline X a “cloned world” that is nearing its end? I still work from the belief that Timeline X is Look-a-Locke’s creation, and maybe it’s inherently unstable. Jack X, for example, doesn’t seem to have all his memories in place and he’s shown some Island wounds. Can Smokey sustain a world that its inhabitants don’t believe in?
