As mentioned before, the Others have indicated in the past that they think of the Island as something with a will of its own. And they do seem to believe in a God that is something other than Jacob. Look back at the brainwashing film that Karl saw in Season Three – one of the messages that appears is “God Loves You as He Loved Jacob”. So that tells us that the Others have Jacob and they have God, and the two are separate. The past tense is interesting, too. You could interpret that as an indication that Jacob is no longer loved. But to me, it seems odd that they would follow somebody who they believe to be rejected by God, and also take comfort in the notion that the same God loves them. “God loves me, but I listen to this guy he doesn’t”. Alternatively, it could indicate that the Others don’t think of Jacob as a living being. He remains a presence in their lives, but he doesn’t have a physical existence.
