LOST Revisited: Pre-Game for “Sundown”
Now, is Jack more special than any other candidate? All the effort that Jacob’s putting into him, you’d think he’s already picked his horse in this race. Or maybe Jack just requires more work. Like he said to Hurley, sometimes you can just meet somebody in a cab and tell them to do something, sometimes you have to let them stare at the ocean for a while. Jack’s encounter with Jacob is the one where it’s most difficult to track the significance. Jacob helped Sawyer hold on to his anger, he taught Kate that somebody will bail her out if she gets in trouble, he gave Locke a little bit of hope, and so on. He handed Jack a candy bar after a fight with his dad. It’s not a straight line like it is with the rest. There was some strategy involved. Jack’s either the favorite to win or the most high-maintenance. Or both.
