Dogen does a good job of preying on Jack’s guilt – a lot of his friends have been hurt or killed on his watch, and that haunts Jack. Does Dogen actually know this, or is he just a good bluffer? We don’t really know what was in the message from Jacob, so this information could have been provided to him. Regardless, he says Sayid will die if he doesn’t take the pill.
