Why was Libby in a mental institution?

Most likely, this is not an important story point, except that at one point it was hinted in an interview that she worked for Widmore. I would just really like to see her backstory – she’s the only Flight 815 survivor who was ever in the main cast that hasn’t had a flashback episode. In fact, she’s the only one with an unknown reason for being on the flight. Even Arzt has more backstory than she does, thanks to the Verizon mini-episodes. Again, the story can end in a satisfactory fashion without addressing her backstory at all, but there are a couple of things I can’t shake. First, her husband was named David, and she was in an institution with Hurley who had an imaginary friend named “Dave”. As rarely as they reuse names on this show, that doesn’t seem like a coincidence. Second, if you recall when Hurley tried to figure out why he recognized her, she answered that he stepped on her foot when he was getting on the plane. In her story, she is already seated when it happens. But she was in the tail section, so Hurley wouldn’t have had to pass her to get to his seat. So that’s just an out-and-out lie. There’s something going on there.
