Bristol gets in a dig at her mom’s “prom hair” in this sequence, and it’s mildly amusing. The woman is immaculately coiffed at all times, and it can be distracting. Sarah, for her part, seems almost giddy when she tells Bristol not to retreat, but to “reload” when her daughter is frustrated. Depending on what you think of her, this will come across as either adorable or maniacal.
Turns out Todd is a bit of a celeb in Alaska, as he’s the four time winner of the Iron Dog race. He gets asked for pictures and such, just like his wife. This sets up a minor story about how competitive Todd and Sarah are; from celebrity, to kayaking to cooking fish at their campsite. I guess the nice thing is that these people seem quite well-suited for each other, and very comfortable with their relationship.
