The Best Shows on TV

Best TV Shows on TV – TV’s Moments of Joy “Just the Beef and the Crows”

Community – Leave it to Community to come up with a new take on TV’s most unwelcome cliche, the clip show.  After an appearance by Annie’s Boobs (Troy’s monkey, not Annie’s actualy boobs), the gang learns that he’s been living in the ducts and stealing stuff for the last year.  Going through his treasure trove had everybody reminiscing about their adventures.  And while this is usually the formula for a series of clips from previous episodes, Community did something great.  Sure, it was a clip show, but it was made up entirely of clips that we’d never seen before.  Apparently, the study group visited a ghost town, built a house for Habitat for Humanity, and had a St. Patrick’s Day rafting adventure that we just never saw.  In between episodes, Annie took Karate lessons, the gang joined the glee club (“We won like seventy awards”), and Pierce hoarded flu shots.  And somewhere in there, Troy and Abed were obsessed with the short-lived The Cape.  We got to see montages of Dean Pelton’s bizarre costumes, meaningful looks between Jeff and Annie, meaningful looks between Pierce and Abed, and a bunch of inspirational speeches from Jeff.  And it wasn’t just meta jokes, either.  Looking back on a bunch of fights we never saw, the study group realized that there’s something very wrong in their interaction, and we learned that Jeff and Britta have been hooking up in secret.  (Not just in “Modern Warfare”, either.)  Community just keeps raising the bar.
