Mad Men Round Table: Season 3, “The Gypsy and the Hobo”

Attention to details. The Draper children go as a Hobo and Gypsy for Halloween, two symbols from Don’s past. Don Draper convinces his kids that plastic masks are “crap” that you “wear once.” I guess he should’ve told them, to truly pull off a costume, you ought to join the army, steal another man’s identity, and then live the rest of your life in peace and anonymity acting like the person you want to be, even if you are living and behaving like an unfaithful, cheating, scam artist. Ya know, because that worked out so well for Don. I can’t imagine a more fitting ending to this episode than Don’s neighbor jokingly asking Don, “and just what are you supposed to be?”
