Mad Men Round Table: Season 3, “The Gypsy and the Hobo”

The rest of the night was spent watching Don unravel as he told Betty everything, hands fidgeting as he tried to light his cigarette, his once confident gait now a defeated stagger.  Perhaps part of him was relieved at being rid of his burden of secrets; all the years of hiding these numerous truths.  So he spilled about Anna Draper; his father Archie and his mother the whore; his stepmother and his Uncle Mac (“He was nice to me.”) and about Adam. He told her all about Adam, and wept when he confessed how he’d died, and that he felt responsible.  It was a moment more intimate than their time in Rome, and perhaps it gave Betty new insight into this man she hardly knows, but can’t help but love.
