Mad Men Roundtable – “Blowing Smoke”

Rosemarie DeWitt and Jon Hamm did a hell of a job with this. A woman who Don once ravaged on a regular basis now sort of repulses him and you could tell all he wanted to do was give her some money and leave, washing his hands of the whole situation. The way he used the painting Midge sold him to inspire his incendiary New York Times ad was nice, though. It should be the kind of revolutionary move that either saves the day or puts the final nail in the coffin of SCDP. Either way, it’s a literal glimpse into the future of advertising, even though in 1965, refusing tobacco business is a merely a moral stance.
