Mad Men Roundtable: “Public Relations”

And how about the hooker he had over on Thanksgiving, whom he made keep on her bra while she slapped him around during sex?  It also can’t be a coincidence that she was on top…Don’s on the bottom right now, in more ways than one.

Betty and Henry sure aren’t Ozzie and Harriet?  His family hates her, for one. And, whether it’s related to stress or just because he’s some sort of weirdo, Henry doesn’t want Betty in the bedroom as much as he does in the car.   On top of that, Henry’s raised his kids and clearly wasn’t thinking about the three small children he was taking on when he married Betty.  I mean, Betty barely thinks of two of them herself, and seems annoyed by the presence of the third–she gives baby Gene to Carla when Don comes to take Sally and Bobby for his visit with them, much to Don’s chagrin.  She expects Don back by 9pm the next night, but purposely returns after 10 (“I’ve waited for you plenty of times.”) She’s also living with Henry in the Draper house, for which Don still pays the mortgage.  Henry actually agrees with Don that it’s time for them to move out (there was a deadline for this, which has passed) and you can see the cracks in this fragile relationship when Henry voices this to Betty and she shoots back that Don “doesn’t make the rules.”  As ever, Don may be a cheater and a liar, but Betty is an ice cold bitch herself.
