Mad Men Roundtable – “The Summer Man”
Faye Miller comes to the office to go over the Fillmore Parts campaign, and Don sort of half asks her out. Which is awesome. It goes from ordering in to, “You seem kind of dressed up. Why don’t we go out?” Ha! Faye calls him on it, which is pretty great. You know that Bethany or any of the various mistresses from years past would have jumped all over that sidelong invitation. She finally agrees, but he has to actually ask her out instead of “tacking it on to the workday like an afterthought”.
I just rewatched this episode during its rerun on AMC Sunday mornings – the first time I saw it, I noted that it was the first time “Mad Men” ended with the credits rolling but no music playing over them. I wondered if there was something particular in the episode that made it special (like the silent clock in “24”). However, I wasn’t certain, so I’d be interested in hearing what you or other readers have to say about the matter.
