Coming off of last week’s perfection, this episode was still excellent, but it was bound to be a bit of a letdown. And my guess last week that maybe there were some sparks between Joan and Joey? Well, I was right, except not at all.
It seems like this motley crew of Joey, Stan and, occasionally, Harry and Ken are still acting like frat boys all day, every day.
Peggy puts up with it because she has to, but she can just barely stand them. Literally the only funny thing that Joey said this week was when Peggy told them to get to work and Stan called her a “wet blanket”. Under his breath, Joey sing-songed, “You love her…” And, then, poof.
I just rewatched this episode during its rerun on AMC Sunday mornings – the first time I saw it, I noted that it was the first time “Mad Men” ended with the credits rolling but no music playing over them. I wondered if there was something particular in the episode that made it special (like the silent clock in “24”). However, I wasn’t certain, so I’d be interested in hearing what you or other readers have to say about the matter.
