Mad Men Roundtable – “The Summer Man”
They kiss in the cab, which is kind of getting to be Don’s thing now. Faye invites herself over, but Don says he’s going to just bring her home. He says “That’s as far as I can go right now”, and I don’t know if he’s enjoying his power of if he’s legitimately reluctant to bring somebody into his life right now. Either way, Don’s got the old mojo back, as he later turns his lap swimming into a race, and then shows up at Baby Gene’s birthday party, to which he had very specifically been uninvited. I love seeing Henry stew here, because that guy deserves it.
I just rewatched this episode during its rerun on AMC Sunday mornings – the first time I saw it, I noted that it was the first time “Mad Men” ended with the credits rolling but no music playing over them. I wondered if there was something particular in the episode that made it special (like the silent clock in “24”). However, I wasn’t certain, so I’d be interested in hearing what you or other readers have to say about the matter.
