Our sub-plot du jour was that of Peggy Olson’s and Paul Kinsey’s ongoing fight for Don’s favor, and it opened with their community theater approach to the Aquanet campaign. Paul Kinsey had conceptualized a very big concept that had women sitting in a convertible while wind messed their hair – well, one woman’s hair. The other woman’s hair-do remained unphased because she uses Aquanet. And Paul Kinsey (a slogan man, I guess) used it all to get to his brilliant bit – Aquanet: Arrive in Style. Don Draper didn’t love it; thought it played long, and that every time he hears “and then” he says there’s a chance for the ladies at home watching the commercial to misunderstand.
