Mad Men Roundtable: “The Suitcase”

Detente appears in the form of a tape Roger was making for Sterling’s Gold, his hilariously named autobiography. The revelations on the tape include that Roger had a fling with the “Queen of Perversions, Ida Blankenship.”  Yes, that’s right, our Mrs. B was a hellcat.  And how about Bert Cooper’s orchiectomy?   In other words, Bert Cooper has no balls. This breaks the ice and Don asks Peggy to “stay and visit.”  She eventually vents a bit about Mark and Don mentions growing up on a farm when they see a mouse scurrying around.

Their impromptu dinner leads to conversation about how Peggy’s never been on a plane.  Don mentions his flight to Korea, his Uncle Mac, and they bond over the discovery of the best idea and work in general.  Don picks fries off Peggy’s plate, which is a very familiar thing to do.  She tells him how her dad had a heart attack and died in front of her when she was 12 and he actually tells about his dad dying (she thinks the way it happened is a joke at first) and how he never knew his mom.
