The Best TV Shows on TV – TV’s Moments of Joy “Operation: Troy is Awesome”

Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1 – We’ve been wondering how the reboot of Aqua Teen Hunger Force would play out with its rumored new premise.  And despite the new opening theme that casts Meatwad, Frylock, and Master Shake as badass 70s cops, it’s a lot like the old show.  Sure, the guys are apparently detectives now and spent several minutes working a case, albeit the wrong case, but that was also the premise for the original series.  For exactly one episode.  Still, they’ve relocated to Seattle (though their house seems to be exactly the same), and they make several references to the fact that this is a new show and now they have to be detectives.  But somehow it still ends up with Shake spending nine years in cryogenic sleep (during which time a creature space voiced by Steven Wright repeatedly makes love to his face), and waking up in a future where people are occasionally obliterated by targeted bolts of lightning.  It’s aggressively strange, as always, and it remains to be seen what the point of the relaunch is.  But even if it’s just weirdness for the sake of weirdness, it’s still funny as hell.  It’s a two-parter (unusual for the Aqua Teens), so maybe we’ll find out on Sunday whether the new setting sticks or if they’re just messing with us once again.  By the way – besides the aforementioned Steven Wright, Eugene Mirman (of Bob’s Burgers, Flight of the Conchords, and Delocated) also guest-stars as the doctor who gives Shake “twelve hundred face abortions”.  Never change, Aqua Teens.  Never change.
