Raising Hope–This week, the Chance family became germ freaks, thanks to Sabrina’s paranoia and a powerful blacklight. They scrubbed the whole house clean, but couldn’t do much about Mamaw, who was filthy. They moved her outside, and when trying to move her trunk, found some old home movies of Virgina’s childhood. Not only did the sweet memories convince Virginia to allow Jimmy to record Hope, but they set up a great line for Burt. Of young Mamaw, he said, “Aw, you look like the hot neighbor from Mary Tyler Moore!” Indeed.
Modern Family–It was the return of Didi Pritchett and Fizbo the Clown! The occasion was Lily’s first birthday, and Jay’s ex came to town to put the whole clan on edge again. Cameron was freaking out because Mitchell wanted him to
just be a Dad at Lily’s princess party, for which he’d already hired a princess. Cam tried making Fizbo a jester, with disturbing results. Meanwhile, Didi told Claire she’d run into her high school boyfriend Robbie at the airport, who then showed up at the Dunphy home for dinner. Didi didn’t bother to mention that Claire was married with three kids. The dinner scene was glorious, with Didi being ten kinds of inappropriate in front of the kids, but not more so than when she hooked up with Robbie in the limo he drives for a living. Mitchell’s reaction of “Nomygod!” was priceless. Gloria and Jay got a recordable book for Lily, and Sofia Vergara again stole the whole episode with a terrifying bear voice that sounded…not like a bear. To quote Jay, “a bear? I was going to get a crucifix!” The show ended with Didi again attacking Gloria, who was hopped up on Xanax for her nerves. Good thing Phil was there to scream “I’ve got Gloria!” We always love when Phil’s crazy crush on his mother-in-law rears its head!
