The Best Shows on TV

TV’s Moments of Joy – Complisults and Explanabrags

An Idiot Abroad – We’ve mentioned our new favorite travel show before, but this week’s episode was the best yet.  Ricky and Stephen sent the long-suffering Karl Pilkington to Mexico, and it was hilarious all the way through.  Karl trained to be a luchador, nearly choked on a tequila worm, and ran like hell from an exploding parade float.  Karl had some of his best observations this week, too.  There was the classic “It’s Easter, but they haven’t got chocolate eggs.  Without chocolate eggs, it’s just Friday.”  And the laugh-out-loud “John Wayne.  He turned out to be gay, right?”  And even, when his overly friendly cab driver asked if Karl’s girlfriend had a nice body, his response of “She used to have”.  Karl really wanted to find a Mexican jumping bean, only to find that they’re not as common in Mexico as cartoons would have him believe.  Karl questioned the design of a Mayan pyramid, suggested that a one-eyed man probably shouldn’t be making fireworks, and found universal truth in Human League.  And unlike the previous episode that sent Karl to Jordan, he never really fell into a funk.  He was plainly miserable there, but in Mexico he was bemused and legitimately curious.  Being Karl, he still didn’t understand things, but it seemed like he was having fun, and that made for a really fun episode.
