The Best Shows on TV

TV’s Moments of Joy – Fish Meat is Practically a Vegetable

Perfect Couples – You know what?  This wasn’t too bad.  After a week opening (Boy, women just take up the whole bed, don’t they?), this new series turned out to be pretty funny.  The double makeout on Game Night kind of won us over.  It’s no Community, but it’s no Outsourced either, and though our expectations were low, there were some good laughs here.  And we’ve got to say, the female cast is pretty awesome.  We were looking forward to see Olivia Munn in her new role, but Perfect Couples also stars Mary Elisabeth Ellis (the waitress from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and the awesome Christine Woods, who played Janis on FlashForward. (Check the recaps – she’s one of the few characters who didn’t just piss us off by the end of the series.)  With an appealing cast and some occasionally bizarre jokes, we’re going to keep an eye on Perfect Couples.  Oh, there’s also a cute golden retriever, and we give extra points to any show with an adorable dog. Hot In ClevelandBreezy summer fluff is now winter comfort food!  Betty White using prison slang (and revealing she slept with Wayne Knight’s Rick in the summer of ‘97; “blame it on Coolio”); Jane Leeves bringing some more depth to her Joy character and Wendie Malick’s razor sharp shoulder blades were a welcome sight this week.  Throw in an all too brief Mary Tyler Moore cameo (“that took spunk!  I hate spunk!”) as a fellow mob wife also in jail whom Elka had last seen 33 years ago (as in the year that MTM went off the air) and you have a harmless diversion that we can’t help but smile about.  Next week, Bonnie Franklin shows up as the mother of Valerie Bertinelli’s boyfriend!
