TV’s Moments of Joy: I’m on a Horse!

Comedy Death-Ray – We’re venturing out of our comfort zone by discussing a podcast here, but this bears mention. CDR is one of our favorites anyway, with a great line-up of comedy guests every week, but last Friday’s episode had Jon Hamm and Rich Sommer sitting in. Don Draper and Harry Crane! Jon’s actually appeared on the show several times, and if you’ve seen his SNL hosting stints or any of his 30 Rock appearances, you know the man can bring the funny. The both of them were hilarious, beginning with their spoilers for the new season of Mad Men, which apparently will end with Don Draper living on the moon. They also explained that it’s really a show about Harry Crane, though sometimes the camera will follow somebody else for a long period of time. We learned how to pronounce Matthew Weiner’s name – his last name is pronounced “Winer”, but his first name is actually pronounced “Weener”. Rich explained why his role on The Office never went anywhere (“It was a Mel Gibson kind of situation…”), and they absolutely tore up a game of “Would You Rather?”. Best moment must have been Jon asking host Scott Aukerman for clarification of a hypothetical reality where he would have to get all his meals by breastfeeding from his grandmother – “Would this be my grandmother as she is now, or the young, hot version?”
