Futurama – Comedy Central brought us a special Christmas episode, and we all know that a Futurama Christmas has to involve the murderous robot Santa. This year, though, they took a page from the Simpsons playbook, and did three short stories, the same way Matt Groening’s other show handles their annual Halloween episode. That means we got to see stories about the 31st Century’s most important holidays, Xmas, Robanakah, and Kwanzaa. All presented by Gunderson’s Nuts! The Planet Express crew rescued the Evergreen from extinction, experienced a Robanakah miracle (but died in the process), and learned the story of Kwanzaa with Kwanzaa-Bot (special guest start Coolio) while running afoul of giant bees. It was an evening of “thoughtful inter-faith hijinx”, as Bender so aptly put it. On this week of Thanksgiving, we’re especially thankful that Comedy Central brought back Futurama, and it’s as great as ever.
