The Best Shows on TV

TV’s Moments of Joy: Now with More Hiking Paper

The Office — Sometimes the simplest jokes are the best – this week we learned that Dwight has never heard of the movie Pretty Woman. He later described it as a “revenge fantasy” about “a sex worker”. We’re pretty sure we would watch a show where Dwight just summarized movies.

The Simpsons – Our favorite family opened their 22nd(!) season with a guest-star packed outing – three of the Glee kids, Stephen Hawking, Ira Glass, and the Flight of the Conchords. Yes, Bret and Jemaine played art camp counselors and struggling artists. (“We get to eat whatever sandwiches we drop, but we can’t drop them on purpose. There are cameras on us at all times.”) It was a fun tie-in to their own show – they didn’t play their usual characters as such, but they were really kind of the same guys. They wrote some new music for the episode, including a rap that had Stephen Hawking promise “a brief history of rhyme”. And the guys even recreated their Season 2 DVD cover in a great sight gag. By the way – this season will also bring us guest appearances from Hugh Laurie and Jon Hamm. We’re very excited!
