Luther – This one came out of nowhere. It’s a crime drama on BBC America, starring Idris Elba (Stringer Bell on The
Wire) as a homicide detective coming back to work after a mental breakdown. It’s kind of a cross between Homicide and the original British version of Cracker. The first episode looked like the series would pretty much just exist as a showcase for the amazing Elba, but the supporting cast is really getting interesting, too. We especially love Alice Morgan – Luther knows that she killed her parents, but he can’t prove it. He’s keeping an eye on her, waiting for her to slip up, but she’s also the only person he can really connect with. It’s really interesting, with some fantastic performances. And we’re worried about every single character, because it really feels like things are going to go bad.
