–That is the longest discussion of Human League you will ever hear on television. Also, we see that the Monarch is again breaking Guild rules. That’s kind of his thing, really. And in Doc’s head, it’s kind of fascinating. First off, the fact that Pete and Billy embody death and sex is kind of alarming. But as we’ll see, Doc’s head is full of people he knows – it doesn’t necessarily mean that Billy is truly his avatar of sexual desire. His subconscious casts roles, and there’s something about their relationship that mirrors Doc’s internal view of sex and death. Maybe that they’re equals, each of whom believes themselves to be the dominant one. And their relationship is defined by friendly bickering. So in Doc’s head, sex and death pretty much snipe at one another, and neither one ever takes control. Also, this is the first time that we hear the denizens of Doc’s skull refer to him as “The Rusty”. So the various parts of Doc’s brain still identify him by his childhood nickname. Holy damn. Doc’s defining characteristic is that he never lived up to the potential of “Rusty Venture, Boy Adventurer”, and now we actually get to see that his own psyche won’t stop dwelling on that. He doesn’t think of himself as “Thaddeus” or “Doc” – his own subconscious is mired in the past. Doc might hate himself more than the Monarch hates him.
