–Even more depressing, as we’re going to see, Doc never really was that Rusty Venture. The Rusty he idealizes is the cartoon version of his life. He spent most of his childhood being terrified (See “Now Museum, Now You Don’t” for a look at how actual Team Venture operations usually turned out for Rusty.) The poor guy’s happiest days were a fiction. The more I think about this episode, the more it breaks my heart.

The Monarch continues messing around in Doc’s head, trying to open a flood of painful memories. He pulls a switch, and all the doors in the hallway open. Back in the cocoon, the Pupa Twins enter the Monarch’s bedroom only to find 21 in bondage gear and Dr. Mrs. in a cheerleader outfit straddling the unconscious Monarch. The Twins leave, visibly shaken. In Doc’s brain, Orpheus says they need to close the doors of perception, and then a bunch of shambling Hank and Dean zombies storm through the hallway. Finally, Orpheus and the guys pick a doorway at random.
