When Rob Riggle first appeared on The Daily Show, I wasn’t so sure about his act. I didn’t think it was the right venue for his sophomoric, blue-collar style, but that quickly changed as he was able to string together some of the funnier bits, week in and week out. Its one thing, in comedy, for someone to adopt a persona but not actually be that person (see: Larry the Cable Guy). I thought maybe The Daily Show had assigned him the dumb-muscle-bound-frat-guy schtick because they’d never had that. What Rob Riggle managed to bring to that schtick, however, was a sense of silliness and soul that made it smart and edgy.
