Hands down, it has to be Tina Fey and Jason Sudeikis (with an assist from Queen Latifah as Gwen Ifil) playing Sarah Palin and Joe Biden in SNL’s cold open. This was a laugh-out-loud sketch that clocked in at a breezy 11 minutes, which is unusual for SNL. Not the length, of course, but that the whole thing is actually funny! And it’s equal opportunity funny; making about as much fun of Joe Biden as Sarah Palin…even though Fey’s dead-on skewering of Palin is remarkable. She should certainly be up for two performance Emmys again next year. I’m not sure what was better…Palin’s flute-playing, her awkward segues (“No thank you! But I’d love to talk about Israel!”) or her “shout-outs” to 3rd graders and Joe Six Pack…things that really happened. Jason did a pretty good Biden; speaking in the third person, repeating himself and giving John McCain backhanded compliments. It was glorious. As a 30 Rock fan, I also loved that Liz and Floyd were together again!
