I’ve already been questioned about this, so I’ll toss out my two cents. Why didn’t the dynamite go off when the ship was knocking over statues and slamming into the ground? First, we don’t know that the dynamite was on the ship at the time – that might just be where the Others stored their explosives in later years. And even if it was on board, it was unstable because the Island climate caused the nitroglycerine to leak. At this time, it would have just been regular, undamaged dynamite. In fact, it was probably all wet at this point.
