He introduces himself as a friend, and unlocks Richard’s chains. He says “It’s good to see you out of those chains”, which is exactly what he said to Richard on the beach outside the statue, after Jacob’s death. Silas asks Richard for his loyalty, and then tells him he needs to kill the devil. He gives him a blade, which I believe is the same one Dogen gave to Sayid, and also gives him, word for word, Dogen’s instructions to Sayid. Stab him, don’t let him speak, etc. Silas tells Richard that the Devil took his body, which had me half-thinking that we were actually watching Jacob here. Richard wasn’t the only one who got played here!
