Mad Men

Mad Men Roundtable: 3rd Quarter Projections

One thing is for certain, we are going to see a challenge to the status quo. The Beatles and the Stones are coming to the subtext. The counter-culture will get louder. Somebody, other than a dame, will need to have long hair on this show, and soon. Do we have any more secrets to reveal? We’ve set a nice stage and learned a lot about these characters and what happened in their pasts that made them this dysfunctional bunch of love-able, old-school ‘60s charicatures, so where do we go from here? These 30- and 40-somethings of Mad Men represent the young members of “The Greatest Generation” and some of these whisky swilling, chauvinistic stereotypes are still kicking around in 2010 …and we call them “Grandma” and “Grandpa.” We, as a population, love this generation. We revere them like no other generation in our American history, so I love that Mad Men peels back the onion a bit and shows us a slightly disturbing underbelly that, I think deep down, we all knew must’ve existed.
