Mad Men

Mad Men Roundtable – “Chinese Wall”

But, like Myndi, I can’t decide on her motivations. I tend to put a good face on it, though. Meghan’s been nothing but sympathetic until now, and I think maybe her line about not crying tomorrow is her trying to be who she thinks Don needs. When, in fact, she already was who Don actually needs. It strikes me that she sees the old Don Draper when she looks at him. She’s in better position to know than anybody, and she’s not gossiping about his drinking or making snide remarks when he’s not around. She, as far as we can tell, admires and respects Don. One of the themes of Mad Men is the difficulty of ever really knowing anybody, though. The show consistently fleshes out minor characters and develops them in a way that shows we were wrong to make assumptions about them based on their ten minutes of previous screen time. There’s more to Meghan than we know, and with her coming into prominence so late in the season, I think we’re in for a major revelation.
