Mad Men

Mad Men Roundtable: Season 2, Episode 10 – “The Inheritance” (Oct 7)

This episode, to me, was about what people call home and what that means.  Betty was excited to go home, but then couldn’t wait to leave.  Don wants to go home, because he’s never been happy at any home, but he cannot.  So he uses Los Angeles to run away from home.  Glenn runs away from home.  Betty becomes the head of her home.  Roger Sterling is not living at home.  Duck, though not featured in his episode, has a new home. Pete cannot stand “the smell” of his mother’s home.  Peggy definitely doesn’t relish going home and seeing her bastard child.  Betty’s brother prefers his tree house home to his father’s home.  Come to think of it, Peter Pan never wanted to grow up or go home, and either did Michael, John, or Wendy in that classic tale, and neither do all of our lost boys of Mad Men.  Perhaps Mad Men, like Duck’s dog let loose in Manhattan, are showing us all of these men and women as they try and find their way ‘home.’
