Now, unfortunately, I have a bad feeling that Peggy’s going to attribute any of her work this weekend to the marijuana, and this is going to be a problem. I’d hate to see Peggy convince herself that she has to get high to be creative. Of course, she seems to be dabbling in a variety of vices lately. Really, I have no idea where Peggy is headed at this point, and that alarms me.
Paul has some great moments this week. First off, for a guy who was a Communist last week, he’s awfully jealous of people who get to go to a fancy party. Frankly, Kinsey is a Communist the same way that Bert Cooper is an Objectivist – in name only. Also, we learn from his dealer buddy that Paul’s putting on airs in his day-to-day life, including hiding his Jersey accent. He presents himself as an effete intellectual, but that’s a façade, just like the one Dick Whitman lives every day. (Note his discomfort whenever the dealer references their shared past.)
