Mad Men

Mad Men Roundtable Season 3, “My Old Kentucky Home”

The older gentleman who Don opened up to after he lept over the bar to make cocktails?  He introduced himself as “Connie”.  You might know him as Conrad Hilton, hotellier and grandfather of Paris.  He was the perfect vehicle to help Don further illustrate to the audience where he comes from (he used to park cars…and pee in the customers’ trunks; and his family apparently lost their farm in Illinois, ending up in “coal country” in Pennsylvania.)  The pieces are coming together slowly.  In the end, he found Betty, alone in the dark, and swept her up in a passionate kiss.  Since we couldn’t see their faces, it’s hard to know his exact motivation.  Is he truly more in love with Betty than ever, or just looking to put on a good show for anyone who might glance over?  Maybe Betty’s new best friend Trudy Campbell, if she’s taking a break from shutting out poor Jennifer Crane or doing a Charleston with Peter.  That whole thing was priceless, and just proved why the Campbells are perfect for each other.  Can you see Peggy Olson doing that dance?  No way…she’d be at the office, smoking a doobie and writing brilliant copy for Bacardi.  She is woman, hear her roar!
