There’s some interesting discussion between the wives at the party – the chief of surgery’s wife advises Joan not to get pregnant (right in front of a pregnant woman, which is awesome). I think we’re all on board with Joan not carrying Greg’s spawn, so it’s good to have another member in our club. She also says “The fact that Greg can get a woman like you makes me feel good about his future”. That really seemed to hit Joan hard. I think, for just a second, she felt like somebody understood that something was wrong with Greg. To Joan, that was an indication that she wasn’t the only one who knew that Greg wasn’t as great as he seemed. It’s so sad that right there, that pleasantry, was the closest thing Joan gets to compassion these days.
