In the end, the spot is a disaster, and Patio passes. Kudos to the show for creating a spot that was faithful to the movie it borrowed from, but also simply “off”. That was how the client put it, and it’s really all that I can say, too. It was lame and supercheesy in an era where cheese was expected. But, without Ann Margaret herself, it was just bad. The only positive to emerge was that Don felt Sal did a competent job directing and would hire him again. We glimpsed Sal’s future in more ways than one.
