Mad Men

Mad Men Roundtable-“Tomorrowland”

It’s interesting to me that this season wasn’t so much caught up in the events of history.  Certain things continued their slow simmer – the Civil Rights movement is about to explode, but racial issues lurked more in the background this season.  Probably because Paul Kinsey isn’t around to announce how he feels about things.  (You know, I think everybody wants to see Sal come back, but I doubt that there’s anyone in the viewing audience who is actively wondering what Paul’s up to.)  Vietnam has cast a shadow over the season, too.  But at this point, it’s more of a thing that people are worried about than something that’s actively affecting their lives.  Last season, the Kennedy Assassination actively changed the flow of the season – this season, the events of the real world are a more subtle presence.  That can’t last for long, as the next couple of years are going to be turbulent.
